About Jessica

The Typewriter
I started writing at 6 years old. My grandfather had this beautiful typewriter he used to type letters to all his relatives. Back then, computers were not common or affordable for everyone. The clickity-clack-clack of each keystroke was music to my ears. When he let me use it, all I wanted to do all day was type, type, type. My eagerness sparked a fire that continued to be kindled for the rest of my journey. As if truly by magic, stories of fairies, animals, heroes, and demons, weaved intricately together in my head, bolstered by the ideas of courage, hope, perseverance, and more. My thoughts spiraled into new worlds with characters beyond imagination itself.

Genres
I have been writing children's stories, poems, and creative fiction for as long as I can remember. But truly speaking, I would pen down any story that stretches my imagination and exercises my curiosity. My mother has always been an avid reader so I was exposed to books early in life, but ironically, I did not quite develop a love for reading in the same way. My grandfather bought me subscription to a local Indian magazine, Gokulam - It was full of stories, facts about key figures in history and the world, comic strips, games, STEM activities, etc. Later my parents gave my sister and I a subscription to National Geographic and I simply loved reading it. Through these magazines, because I found them to be a less intimidating way to grow into reading as a hobby, I grew (and still continue to grow) my reading abilities. As I grew older though, I intentionally asked for recommendations from families and friends on books and found myself loving historical fiction, mysteries, fantasy stories, thrillers, and so much more.
